Artist of the Month

The Artist Subi

The Artist Subi's surrealist paintings are inspired by the myriad of locations she's called home throughout her life; from her birthplace in San Francisco, California to West Virginia, Hawaii, New York, and South Beach (where she currently resides). She grew up in a religious commune, without television, and her main outlet became drawing and painting which spurned her artistic career. Subi is a self-taught student of masters such as O'Keefe and Salvador Dali. She believes that one of the most difficult things to understand are the human form's the many different planes. Once the human form is understood, everything else will come more easily. This notion is evoked in the organic and fluid nature of her vibrantly colored oil paintings.

Currently on display are selected works from her Hawaii, New York, and Miami collections, presented by A.N.E.W. museum/galleries.

This Saturday, January 23rd Back Door Bamby welcomes Constantino “Mixmaster” Padovano aka Funky Junction, who was kind enough to send us over a studio mix he did for his label, Sheeva records.  You can download it here.

“I like to be a little bit more funky, I like to be open and a bit more creative [...] I think it’s the best way to keep the whole dance floor alive, you have to give that wave and flow of music. You cannot be repetitive for eight hours, it’s impossible and it’s not going to work. You’re going to lose the dance floor.”
