Artist of the Month
The Artist Subi
The Artist Subi's surrealist paintings are inspired by the myriad of locations she's called home throughout her life; from her birthplace in San Francisco, California to West Virginia, Hawaii, New York, and South Beach (where she currently resides). She grew up in a religious commune, without television, and her main outlet became drawing and painting which spurned her artistic career. Subi is a self-taught student of masters such as O'Keefe and Salvador Dali. She believes that one of the most difficult things to understand are the human form's the many different planes. Once the human form is understood, everything else will come more easily. This notion is evoked in the organic and fluid nature of her vibrantly colored oil paintings.
Currently on display are selected works from her Hawaii, New York, and Miami collections, presented by A.N.E.W. museum/galleries.
From the CCCV Blog, article by John Hood: “If you live in Dade County, you’ve seen the tags everywhere: a blocked stencil, a starred sticker, a dashed black marker or a swift spray of paint. AHOL. SNIFFS. GLUE. But signing his nom de guerre to the city he loves is only a part of what this Miami born and bred visualist does in the wild world. The rest, as they say, is suitable for framing…” Click Here to Read More.

Move to the Malahtic Music
Thursday, March 04, 2010 He Said/She Said
By Tracy Block of Rumbum.com:
“South Carolina-based psy-jam trio The Malah has been making music since 2003. They’ve been trying to make it down to Miami for the past year, and finally secured a gig with local jammers The Heavy Pets Saturday, March 6
at Downtown Miami hotspot The Vagabond. Rum Bum’s Tracy Block spoke to bassist Elliott Vaughn about the band’s meaning, instrumental style and maintaining their mission.”
What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music.
But you want more.
You want something & someone new.
Am I right?
Of course I am.
You want ecstasy
Desire & dreams.
Things not exactly what they seem.
I lead you this way, he pulls that way.
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to you, my self.
Let's recreate the world.
The palace of conception is burning.
Look. See it burn.
Bask in the warm hot coals.
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are.
You know exactly what I do
Everything
