Artist of the Month

Desiree Almodovar

Desiree Almodovar was born in 1985 in Puerto Rico, and grew up in Tampa FL. She received her BA in 2010 from Florida International University.

At first glance, her paintings seem to mirror the surrealists fascination with the subconscious. However, Desiree consciously chooses subject matter reflective of magical events in her life. Viewers are transported into enigmatic worlds where the rides and paths of life await them. Her influences include Bosch, Inka Essenhigh and Camille Rose Garcia.

Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries, including Tampa Museum of Art and Area 23 Gallery. She currently lives and works in Miami FL.

This Saturday The Vagabond Welcomes THE TWELVES!

Monday, August 09, 2010 Featured

twelvesforwebsite

This Saturday, August 14th - The Vagabond and Back Door Bamby proudly welcome THE TWELVES!

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, The Twelves were formed by the duo João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira back in 2005. The name came from the strange coincidence of their birth dates: twelve of july of 1980.
Drawing from influences as extensive as Daft Punk, Phoenix, Van She, Simian Mobile Disco, Cut Copy and Goldfrapp - their live show is a unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly, always improvising as much as possible.

Their remixes and reworkings of major artists songs transform them into instant club bangers - check out their remix of M.I.A’s “Boyz” and “Get Lucky” by New Young Pony Club.

What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music.
But you want more.
You want something & someone new.
Am I right?
Of course I am.
You want ecstasy
Desire & dreams.
Things not exactly what they seem.
I lead you this way, he pulls that way.
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to you, my self.
Let's recreate the world.
The palace of conception is burning.
Look. See it burn.
Bask in the warm hot coals.
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are.
You know exactly what I do
Everything
- Jim Morrison
