Artist of the Month

The Artist Subi

The Artist Subi's surrealist paintings are inspired by the myriad of locations she's called home throughout her life; from her birthplace in San Francisco, California to West Virginia, Hawaii, New York, and South Beach (where she currently resides). She grew up in a religious commune, without television, and her main outlet became drawing and painting which spurned her artistic career. Subi is a self-taught student of masters such as O'Keefe and Salvador Dali. She believes that one of the most difficult things to understand are the human form's the many different planes. Once the human form is understood, everything else will come more easily. This notion is evoked in the organic and fluid nature of her vibrantly colored oil paintings.

Currently on display are selected works from her Hawaii, New York, and Miami collections, presented by A.N.E.W. museum/galleries.

From Miami New Time’s Crossfade Blog, article by Arielle Castillo:

“For a town so obsessed with dance music, Miami has very few nights devoted to straight-up house. Not electro-, not tech-, just house [...] Backdoor Bamby at the Vagabond has become a required stop for hungry house heads. Titans like Louie Vega and Jellybean Benitez have all become Saturday-night regulars there, and this weekend, Miguel Migs makes a stop at the club [...] The DJ/producer’s current tour supports his latest mix for the imprint, Get Salted Volume 2. It’s funky, deep, gushy, all that stuff [...] It’s a sound that bangs particularly well through the Vagabond’s main-floor sound system, and the gig will provide an intimate taste of Migs’ flavor before the WMC madness begins.

As a preview, you can stream the whole mix online here.

*Make sure to check out this mix by Ivan Diaz, who will be doing a warm-up set for Miguel Migs this Saturday.

What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music.
But you want more.
You want something & someone new.
Am I right?
Of course I am.
You want ecstasy
Desire & dreams.
Things not exactly what they seem.
I lead you this way, he pulls that way.
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to you, my self.
Let's recreate the world.
The palace of conception is burning.
Look. See it burn.
Bask in the warm hot coals.
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are.
You know exactly what I do
Everything
- Jim Morrison
