Artist of the Month

Iron Forge Press

To simply call Iron Forge Press founders Chuck Loose and Ian Rowan ''artists'' would be a disservice to everything that goes on in their Fort Lauderdale studio. Along with an in-house design studio, Iron Forge is full-service printer, creating posters, stickers, and t-shirts from the ground up. Chuck and Ian had been designing for well over a decade before they decided it would be necessary to open up their own specialty print shop in order to provide themselves with printing services not available in Florida. Since Iron Forge opened in 2005 they've amassed quite a client roster having created artwork for Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, The Black Crowes, Megadeath, Bad Brains, The Mars Volta and The Foo Fighters, just to name a few. In fact, all of the pieces currently adorning The Vagabond's bar room were at one point concert posters. They are also the masterminds behind The Vagabond and Sweat Records logo.

Make sure to check out their website where you can peruse their work, take some home with you, or even have them create and print custom design.

In Her Native Habitat

On Monday, February 1st Miami New Times‘ John Hood imparted some info on Laura of Miami, who will be spinning a guest DJ set in The Vagabond’s Main room this Friday:

“Running things at WVUM these days is the simply named Laura (of Miami), whose official position is programming and music director. But don’t for a moment let that rather ho-hum moniker fool you, because this is one head-spinner who’s crazy about the dizzy and the now [...] Laura got her start up in Beantown back at the dawn of the 21st century [...] Post-Northeast found Laura swinging things in our stretch of the Sunshine State, then under the name Lahora [...] Laura took a break and coursed through audio engineering school. And it was that sonic document she earned which gave her an aural up on the competition. So when Laura enrolled at UM’s music school, it was only fitting she’d be appointed queenpin at the namesake station.”

Astari Night Celebrate EP Release at The Vagabond 1/29

On January 25th, 2010 Miami New Times’ John Hood writes:

“This month, Astari Nite marks the official release of its eponymous EP. And the band is set to perform at the Vagabond to celebrate [...] Led by a tune titled “True Romance,” the EP makes clear that the members of Astari Nite are not afraid to wear their dark hearts on their suitably gilded sleeves. Another highlight among the EP’s five tracks is a little ditty called “From Carving Lips.” Yes, the song takes a page from the Cure and turns it into a 21st-century lament. But it’s also a celebration of love lost and dissolution, and it provides an almost giddily delirious tingle of the crash that’s set to come.”

What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music.
But you want more.
You want something & someone new.
Am I right?
Of course I am.
You want ecstasy
Desire & dreams.
Things not exactly what they seem.
I lead you this way, he pulls that way.
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to you, my self.
Let's recreate the world.
The palace of conception is burning.
Look. See it burn.
Bask in the warm hot coals.
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are.
You know exactly what I do
Everything
- Jim Morrison
