Artist of the Month

Desiree Almodovar

Desiree Almodovar was born in 1985 in Puerto Rico, and grew up in Tampa FL. She received her BA in 2010 from Florida International University.

At first glance, her paintings seem to mirror the surrealists fascination with the subconscious. However, Desiree consciously chooses subject matter reflective of magical events in her life. Viewers are transported into enigmatic worlds where the rides and paths of life await them. Her influences include Bosch, Inka Essenhigh and Camille Rose Garcia.

Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries, including Tampa Museum of Art and Area 23 Gallery. She currently lives and works in Miami FL.

Synth-Disco Duo Classixx at The Vagabond 12/11!

classixtji2

Nu-Disco DJ/Producer duo Classixx have amassed quite the discography in the past year, kicking it off with their remix of Phoenix’s “Lisztomani” being featured on Kitsune’s Maison 7. Their tracks, such as “Cold Act Ill,” “I’ll get You,” and their remix of The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go,” have been rocking dance floors across the planet (including The Vagabond’s main room). This Friday, Classixx will be given control of The Vagabond’s decks as they cap off a prolific year and throw down the gems that have shaped their sound (along with some of their own creations).

Check out this mix to get a taste of their sound.

What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music.
But you want more.
You want something & someone new.
Am I right?
Of course I am.
You want ecstasy
Desire & dreams.
Things not exactly what they seem.
I lead you this way, he pulls that way.
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl.
I'm talking to you, my self.
Let's recreate the world.
The palace of conception is burning.
Look. See it burn.
Bask in the warm hot coals.
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are.
You know exactly what I do
Everything
- Jim Morrison
